Mirror Adjustments
Proper mirror adjustment is critical to safe driving. This page depicts an excellent method to adjust mirrors to maximize your view of the road. Remember, adjust your mirrors BEFORE you start to drive!
This one is easy. Start with the rear view mirror. Adjust the mirror such that you see as much of the rear windshield as possible. While adjusting the mirror, try to keep your head in the same position as it will be when you are actually driving.
Side view mirror adjustment is more tricky.
First, lean to the left so that your forehead is just touching the side window (make sure your window is rolled up!).

Notice that you can see a good portion of the left side of the car. To adjust your mirror properly, move the mirror such that you can barely see the left side of the car.
In order to adjust the right side mirror, move your head toward the center of the car. Then repeat the above process so that the right side mirror shows just a sliver of the right side of the car(pictured below):
